Karma House Tattoo Temple

Karma House is a tattoo studio in Sayan, Ubud, that doubles as a chai bar, dance space and events venue. It was founded by Aren Bahia, who came to Ubud from Vancouver, stayed after a yoga teacher training and built the studio around giving back: a portion of every tattoo supports a school for children with disabilities in Gianyar.

Artists and styles

The team includes Balinese artists who grew up in Ubud and international guest artists. Juke works in fine line, mandala and geometric designs. Agusto focuses on fine line, dot work, lettering and tribal ornamental styles. Antonia covers realism and bolder, expressive designs. Sacred geometry, watercolour and cover-ups of old tattoos are also done. Inks are vegan, cruelty-free and non-toxic, and Balinese ceremonial tattoos with a resident priestess are available on request.

Booking, deposits and walk-ins

Appointments are made by WhatsApp or Instagram. The studio is mainly appointment-based and takes walk-ins when the schedule allows. A deposit of IDR 500,000 to 1,000,000 is deducted from the final price but is not refunded, and is paid at least 48 hours ahead by card or in cash at the studio. Rescheduling needs 48 hours of notice to keep the deposit. Consultations are free, free touch-ups are available within the first three months under set conditions, and card payments carry a 3% charge. Numbing cream can be added for an extra fee.
