How we test
Always self-paid
Everyone who writes for SmartBali pays for every visit and keeps the receipt. We don't accept invitations, free meals, discounts, day passes or anything else in return. No place knows in advance that we're coming.
No ads, no income
SmartBali is a private project. There are no ads, no paid listings, no affiliate links and no collaborations. No place can buy a listing or a better score.
The SmartBali Score
Every tested place gets up to four scores from 1 to 10:
- Food / offer: the quality of what you go there for (food, training, courts …)
- Value: what you get for your money
- Vibe: atmosphere, location, crowd
- Service: friendliness, speed, cleanliness
The score is the average of the scores given. It reflects the impression of the person who was there on a particular day. Their name, Instagram profile and the date are printed on every receipt.
Tested and not tested
- Tested: one of us went there and paid.
- Not tested yet: the entry comes from research, with sources. Nobody has been there yet, so it has no score.
How the texts are written
We capture our impressions on the spot, with photos and notes on a phone. AI writing assistants turn these notes into a draft, and add practical facts such as addresses and opening hours from public sources. Entries for places nobody has visited yet are researched the same way and marked "not tested yet". A person reads and corrects every draft and only then publishes it. Scores and opinions always come from the person who was there.
