Odyssey Surf School

Odyssey Surf School, Kuta, located at the Mercure Kuta hotel arcade just 10 metres from Kuta Beach. Odyssey offers beginner to intermediate surf lessons and surf tours for a wide age range.

What you find there

The school runs group and private surf lessons on Kuta Beach and surf tours around Bali. Lessons include equipment such as rash vests, soft-top surfboards, leashes, helmets, surf wax/traction pads and other accessories. The office provides changing rooms, clean showers, toilets, free mineral water, clean towels and free safety lockers. Photography during lessons is available for an additional charge and a fun certificate is available on request.

Instruction, safety and booking

Odyssey has operated since 2003. All instructors are certified by the Academy of Surfing Instructors Australia and have bronze-level training in Lifesaving Surf Rescue, Advanced Resuscitation and Senior First Aid. Instructors are fluent in English and Japanese. Lessons are covered by insurance. The school runs up to two lessons daily depending on tide conditions, does not operate on Nyepi, and guarantees that beginners will be able to stand during their first lesson or will be offered an extended free lesson. Reservations are required at least one day prior and bookings can be made online by credit card or PayPal.

Practical notes

Free hotel transfer is offered for selected areas (Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Nusa Dua, Tuban); last-minute bookings under 24 hours require guests to arrange their own transport. High season surcharges apply to some private lessons.
