Tapawana Spiritual Tattoo and Body Piercing

Tapawana Radjah Nusantara Spiritual Tattoo and Body Piercing is a studio on Jl. Raya Sanggingan in Ubud. The name joins the Sanskrit words tapa, meditation, and wana, forest. The studio focuses on tribal tattoos and custom designs built around a client's personal path, drawing on ancient motifs from Southeast Asia and Europe.

Artists and techniques

Ibnu Suharyo, a tattoo artist and designer born in Jakarta, studied design in Bandung, has studied tattoo art since 1994 and has worked as a professional tattooist since 2011. Dewa Nyoman Mustika is a tattoo artist, Ian Alon Rajaguguk is part of the team and Jhonny Chaos is the piercer. Techniques offered are traditional hand tapping, manual hand tattooing and machine tattooing.

Hygiene, hours and booking

The studio uses single-use disposable needles and inks imported from the US, and follows international sterilization procedures. Hours are 12:00 to 21:00, closed on Fridays. Walk-ins are welcome, or an appointment can be made by email or WhatsApp with a short brief covering the idea, size and placement, name and age, possible dates, whether it is a first tattoo, and reference pictures.
