Sangeh Monkey Forest

Sangeh Monkey Forest is a forested nature and cultural site in Abiansemal, north of Denpasar and within the wider Ubud hinterland. The reserve contains tall trees, a Hindu temple complex and long-tailed macaques living in the forest.

What you find there

Visitors find shaded paths, large nutmeg trees, temple buildings, stone figures and monkeys moving through the forest. Pura Bukit Sari stands within the woodland and forms the religious centre of the site. The forest combines a wooded landscape with Hindu religious buildings and paths for visitors.

Local tradition connects the forest and temple with the Mengwi royal family.
