Pura Taman Ayun

Pura Taman Ayun is a royal family temple in Mengwi, in the area west of Ubud and north of Denpasar. The compound is enclosed by a moat and is known for its landscaped grounds, courtyards and rows of multi-tiered meru shrines.

History

Taman Ayun was built in the eighteenth century as the main temple of the Mengwi kingdom. The layout reflects the relationship between royal authority, temple architecture and the traditional Balinese division of sacred space.
